Orekhovo-Zuyevsky City Museum of Local Lore. Main building
About
The main building of the Orekhovo-Zuyevsky City Museum of Local Lore, built in 1937, previously served as a children's sanatorium.
Architectural features
The building is designed in a style typical of Soviet architecture of the 1930s. It has a clear rectangular shape, several floors and a typical layout for that time. The facades are distinguished by their restrained decor, with an emphasis on functionality and practicality.
History of the building
Until 2000, the museum changed its location several times. It originally opened in 1929 as the public museum "Tkach" in the courtyard of the twisting and threading factory (Moiseenko Ave.). In 1956, the museum resumed work in the building of the former Board of the Vikula Morozova and Sons Manufactory Association in the Nikolskoye microdistrict. However, in 1966, due to an accident (the roof and ceilings of the first floor collapsed), part of the collection was lost. In 1967, the museum moved to the building of the former bakeries of the Nikolskaya manufactory "Savva Morozov's Son and Co." in the Courtyard of the Strike, leased from the Orekhovsky cotton mill.
In September 2000, the museum finally moved to the building of the former children's sanatorium on Klyazminsky Passage, where it is still located.
Current status
